SBK Superbike World Championship 20 - 22 Feb 2015 - Organised Ride Down?

I didn't take up the below invite but Kellie & I have decided we would LIKE to go to the Supers next year, but are perfectly happy to leave it to a week or two prior to actually commit. If anyone else has a level of interest please let me know. Either via this forum (you can guest post as long as you can answer a couple of Ducati related questions), or send me an email via [email protected] this website's main url (minus the www. of course).

I do note there is a cheaper ticket deal if they are pre-purchased prior to 12th December 2014, so maybe commitment is not such a bad thing? We'll think about that closer to the time....

I think camping at the event is just fine; let's do the live entertainment thing on Fri & Sat night and have a couple of hair letting down days between riding days.

Re the journey, it is much nicer to spend two days traveling each way rather than doing it in one, and I will make sure the most interesting ones are pre-programmed into the GPS as I have done so many backroads between here and Vic I know where the winners are... It would be practical to leave late arvo and stop in the Blue Mtns for the first night and go from there in one day but I would rather not. Heck we might even add the overnight stop on the day before as it is a nice add-on and we can still take two days to get there! Very helpful for building ride fitness as we will do the Bonang Hwy on the second day, and that has sooo many corners you need to be kinda fit.

I have a few rels in the area and would like to catch up with a couple of them. Doing the afterburner day on the Monday is another possibility; otherwise we might just cover some ground Sunday arvo to get out of the area and see how we feel the following day about home in one or two days. I don't have a clear fix on when to call in on rels - one possible answer would be to call in fri arvo in Melbourne and again on Sun arvo in Ballarat, where there would be no problem accommodating any traveling companions ready for the trip homeward next day.

All pretty flexible. If anyone is in the "maybe" pile let me know. Otherwise Kellie and I will just make up our minds what we are going to do and please ourselves! Good company is always welcome, and that is the only kind we have on the mailing list for this forum! Are you interested? Let me know...

I was just checking round the sbk & Phillip Island websites - they haven't put up much info about 2015 yet - I sent them an email seeking details and, when I get some, I'll put them up here too.

The Supers are locked in for another three years at The Island 2015 - 2017. I nearly got there last year http://hunterdog.org.au/DiscussionBoard/index.php?topic=860.0 and went to Tintaldra TTT this year. But what about 2015? I am aware there is an organised ride down that we could join and stay in nearby cottages (email says: "I have found a cluster of cottages just near the track that can accommodate up to 24 people"), or do the tent thing for the added flexibility / last minute decision-making option for it.

Arrive Phillip Island 19th  February·         

Have three days of Superbikes [4 nights] (where we will be able to walk to the track each day if you wish, or ride- because you can take your bikes into the circuit for the Superbikes)·         

Head home on the Monday and take either one or two days to do it via the Monaro Highway, or maybe even the Victorian highlands

Let me know and I'll organise it all! If you haven’t been, or have been to MotoGP, this is very different and a great time away with friends, traveling some fabulous roads.

Which is suggesting departure on Wed am (early, or Tues evening and stay 200km in the direction of travel). Ride down wed & thurs (gotta do the Bonang Hwy I would say! Plus I have a couple of other "specials" to include...). I don't know about "4 nights" as I would expect to leave after the last race Sun and make a start for home, so it becomes do-able to get home Monday.
