Nundle Recon Ride 26-27 July 2014 Weekend Away; Depart 9am BP Bero

Oh, as a minor amusement item we will be bringing a dog with us. Yep, got permission off the pub and did a trial 200km run, all good. There WILL be photos, eventually - then you will know why it is "amusing". Imagine a long haired Lhasa Apso with pink goggles and a hoodie and, well, now you get the idea?

I put a new front tyre on a month ago and have just stuck a new rear tyre on ready for the trip, should be a beauty - bring it on!!!

PS: Anyone that hasn't heard the many road reports from fellow riders, clearly the Pirelli Angel GT tyres are currently the best all-rounders for serious sports tourer riders as they give exceptional grip whilst getting decent mileage, far more than any predecessors. I look forward to finding this out first hand, but I can see some pretty credible riders are already totally convinced which is good enough for me. A toddle around the bottom Wollombi loop two up last weekend and I was happy with the well planted new front tyre.

Yep, head count is at 10 (4 are ladies, 2 are riding) with 4 more maybes. Always great to have a crowd!

8 of us leaving BP Bero at 9am, 2 more plus the 4 maybes are ex Singleton so we will delete Clarencetown and go via East Gresford so we can meet up with the Singleton people at East Gresford. That adds about 14km further all up, and it means we get to take that fabbo road which is the third turn across to to Dungog, rather than the much lamer first or second turns!

If you are thinking of joining us let me know. Re accommodation, apart from the fishing & pony clubs, it appears it is also practical to get a house as Pauline & Ted have done that. Last I knew (two days ago) they had a couple of rooms spare; I can put you in touch if interested.

Well Darren and Brian are coming, and they have discovered this is a problematic weekend for accommodation as it is Nundle's Christmas in July! See www.nundle.com.au/events/christmas-in-july/ which explains how the Hanging Rock community hall will have a shindig on, complete with feast and dancing. It is pretty cold up there at night so they are welcome to it; the rest of us can look forward to a hearty meal in the pub!

Fortunately Darren says the Fishing Club still has vacancies, so they are sorted now and looking forward to the weekend. And now you know where to ring first too.... but they didn't try the Pony Club so it's also an option.

Note the BP Beresfield is at the top end of the F3 / M1 Pacific Motorway; coming from south turn right at the big roundabout and it is 100m up on the left.

This is a reminder for the upcoming NSW Ducati Owners Club "Recon(noitre) Run To Nundle" weekend away on Sat / Sun 26th & 27th July; all comers are welcome. Always a very pleasant riding weekend away, pretty easy but not boring. There are two couples heading from Newcastle area already. If you would like to join us for a lovely weekend away (you know you want to!) please book your accommodation per details below and reply to this email / call me on 0414 706 875 so we know to look out for you on the day.

The main contingent from NSW DOC will be travelling up the Putty per details here: http://docnsw.org.au/item/424590, but it is a fairly boring route past Bulga. The Newcastle area contingent will be leaving the Bero BP at 9am Saturday (unless those that are going decide a different time / place, so let us know if you're coming!). We will go up the back way via Duckenfield, Hinton, Clarencetown East Gresford, Dungog, Stroud Rd, Gloucester (coffee stop), Thunderbolts Way, Walcha (lunch), Bendemeer, Back Kootingal Rd (to dodge Tamworth), Woolomin then Nundle; 421435km total. Some of the Sydney crowd will go up Thunderbolts Way too, so we might have company from Gloucester or Walcha.

There is a good chance we will arrive in plenty of time to pop in to the Nundle Wool Mill; it is open 10am - 4pm 7 days/week and well worth a look in. "A Wool Mill?" you might think, but you will be surprised how fascinating it is! On Sunday morning we'll go up to Sheba Dam, the most beautiful rally site anywhere, for a quick visit before heading home. This is 8km tar all the way, and some nice climbing twisty sections to enjoy; they are just as good on the way back too. Then return via Scone, Merriwa, Denman, Milbrodale and the back way through the wineries; 402km total so easily home by mid arvo.
