Hmm, turns out they have swapped to a Honda engine and are finally about to commence production, at least according to the following: http://spartanmotorcompany.com/www.spartanmotorcompany.com/History.html

The last update to their website seems to be 2013, although it says the vehicle will debut in Wheels magazine in 2015. However Google and I could find no such debut, not yet anyway - so maybe there has been a delay. Hardly surprising with such an ambitious venture!

The reason I am posting this after so many years is it came up in conversation and I wanted to upload the DOCNSW Concourse De Elegance pics I took from 18/09/11 for others to view. Shame about them being out dated now in the motor dept! Back in 2011 these people were really decent guys and I wish them all the best with their launch, whenever it comes...

History

As history has constantly shown us, only the strong survive, and in honour of the Spartans - the most superior fighting machine the world has ever seen, a supercar has been passionately developed that exudes their very principles.

With a dedication and passion for perfection, two brothers embarked on a journey that commenced as far back as 1983 when they built their first motorcycle powered buggy. This proved to be the seed for inspiration and the desire to one day develop a supercar combining a body to rival Ferrari and the pulsating throb of a Ducati V-Twin engine with the handling to surpass most supercars.

Their passion and commitment has seen them develop one of the fastest and lightest track cars in the world today, the Spartan.

X-Treme Driving Experience

Close your eyes for just a moment and imagine…

The throaty sound of Ducati’s powerful 1198 V-Twin engine as it roars into life. Feel the vibrations as your senses go into overload… you are focused… your heart is pounding and… your palms have started to sweat.

Catapulted to 100km/h in 3 seconds, your mind is struggling to keep up with the sheer acceleration as your body takes control and you realise for the very first time what it means to be ‘at one with the car’.

The powerful Ducati 1198 engine with its 170hp is at the heart and soul of this very special car. Combined with its super-lightweight construction, low centre of gravity and spectacular braking, it makes for one hell of a drive.

Designed and developed for the purist wanting the ultimate driving experience, the Spartan has been born and bred as a true roadster with no roof, no doors and just a small speedster-style windscreen.

There will only be 300 Spartan track cars manufactured worldwide. Price for this amazing machine is $90,000AUD.

Specifications

The styling of the Spartan is raw and minimalistic - Spartan. Carbon-fibre body panels with quick-release Dzus fasteners, fully-adjustable racing shock absorbers and exposed suspension components reinforce the aggressive form and function of the product.

The chassis is not only lightweight but extremely tough. The tubular spaceframe design provides superior stiffness and has the signature trellis look, reminiscent of the Ducati motorcycle frame design. There are no paddle shifts, just a traditional chrome gear stick and round knob. The pedal box can be adjusted quickly as can the steering to truly make the driver at one with the car. The exhaust exits via a raw carbon-fibre diffuser that sits below the see-through mesh panel that allows you to see the engine, chassis and suspension.
