Australian Formula Extreme Championship - Winton
« Reply #1 on: 07 Jul 2010, 02:42 PM »
From Lewis Racing Team,

Round 2 of FX Nationals and Australian Formula Xtreme Championship held at Winton Raceway, Benalla Victoria and Lewis Racing took the Ducati 848 out to contest the Pro Twins class.

Unbeaten in the F2 class from round 1 at Wakefield Darren wanted to keep those same results going at Winton.
A productive Friday practice in terms of finding a good base setting for the bike and some suspension changes at the end of the day and we were happy to return to the track Saturday to qualify for FX Nationals.

Darren put in a good time on the 848 to be on the second row for race one with Ryan McLauchlin on pole, Chris Knox and Richard Liminton all on bigger Ducati 1198 machines and Angus Reekie rounding out the front row. Race 1 and 2 were carbon copies with Ryan and the other 2 1198?s taking the top 3 outright positions, that left Darren to fight it out with Angus on the SMR Aprilia Motard where we ended up 5th but first F2.
Race 3 and Darren got a much better start and was hanging in with the 3 F1 bikes up the front. The 848 could match them in the corners and under brakes but the grunt of the 1198 out of the corners and down the straights was too much for the 848. Still a 4th outright and again 1st in F2 for the day was a great result for the team.

So it?s Sunday and it?s time for the Australian Formula Xtreme Championship with television coverage and a dozen or so on board cameras and our 848 was lucky enough to have one mounted on the bike for the day.

Qualifying for race one and Pro Twins was first up on a cold track and Darren managed to put down a time good enough to get on the front row with McLauchlin (pole), Knox and Liminton on the 1198?s. Our goal was to try and get on the podium for at least one race and break up the 3 bigger bikes.
Race 1 and Ryan shot off the line and put in some consistent times to win by 8 seconds from Knox. The 1198 of Liminton was only .4 of a second ahead of Darren on the 848 for the fight for 3rd. Race 2 and 3 ended in the same manner with Darren having no answer for the grunt of the 1198. We ended the day 4th outright and 1st in Formula 2 and Darren now leads the F2 series with a perfect points haul. He also sits 4th on the Pro Twins outright points table.

At Winton Lewis Racing was Brett, Shelby and Mark and without our personal sponsors,
