Club Newsletters - Archive copies 2009, 2010

<< < (3/3)

VinceS:
Well, it seemed a simple task to paste newsletters in an archival record but it seems house owner building has completely distracted me from doing updates to the last archive here http://hunterdog.org.au/DiscussionBoard/index.php?topic=199.0. But I do have these all filed and will paste the collection following on from where the last one left off to the one issued earlier today, then put these things in here as a regular update process. I do know that some of the missing ones are actually posts elsewhere in the forum, but there is nothing like having an easy to see record of what we have been putting out as a club huh?

HunterDOG Breakfast this Sunday 7/03/10 plus Club Ride SATURDAY 20/03/10 => Bathurst Weekend Away

G'day VinceS,

Yes, another lazy Sunday start with breakfast 9am at the Belmont 16' Sailing Club coming up. We will not only get a nice breakfast in great surroundings but will sort out the main details of the upcoming weekend away on 20-21/03/10 - anything could change so bring your thoughts & wishes along, or send a reply email beforehand if you can't get there. Also really interested to get a handle on why the numbers have been so erratic on monthly club rides of late, sometimes lots and sometimes only 3. It won't be an issue next month as we have the inaugural garage ride (see below for details) and I reckon the street will be flooded with Ducatisti eager for a sticky beak and a nag at our celebrity's garage!

Frances has volunteered to organise the accommodation for the weekend away if people are clear that they are coming and able to manage direct booking / deposits / whatever themselves as long as they give her an idea of numbers first. Or we may take direct deposits via the club account which is easy do. The key is to sort out the best rates at a nice place, get options for different styles of accomm, and figure out how / if wet weather / other cancellation would be best managed.

Obviously a KEY change is that the next club ride will be on the Saturday not Sunday. For the "awayers" via Wiseman's Ferry, Kurrajong, Bell, Oberon, Mt Panorama Circuit. We get to do the Bells Line Rd and those really cool sweepers just after the Hartley turn-off to Oberon. The day trip only riders would peel off at Kulnura and go to Wollombi for lunch. This is only 340km to Bathurst so we will have plenty of time for a bit of sight seeing and a lap of Mt Panorama during the afternoon (we lucked out on the way back from Turismo as the Bathurst 12 Hour was on, but I have checked and there is nothing on 'til Easter!).  Note the earlier schedule was talking about going via Blue Mtns but a) the roads there are congested and boring, and b) you need to spend at least a full day there to make it worthwhile. The Blue Mtns (where I lived 10 years) works really well by going up Fri night and coming back Sun arvo - and that could be a plan for another day! This one upcoming is going to be relaxed and fairly easy, but as much fun as you want is available - up to you!

Sunday: (390km) via Kandos, Rylstone, Bylong, Denman, Jerrys Plains, Singleton, Elderslie, Duckenfield. The road has been tarred right through Bylong now which greatly shortens the trip (by 100km) and builds the interest. The earlier part of the return trip involves that brilliant twisty road over the old goldfields through Sofala, where we will have a bit of a touristy look around. On return we will do Elderslie and Duckenfield, a route many of us are familiar with and far prefer to the highway.

Now I know quite a few people are interested in this weekend away. The critical first thing is to put your hand up with quantities in the next few days. The topic is being tracked at http://hunterdog.org.au/DiscussionBoard/index.php?topic=620 so check there for updates or to make a contribution yourself as it unfolds. Look forward to hearing from you and getting away for another beauty!

As noted next month will be our inaugural Garage Ride. What better way to start than with a visit to the Loopy Lewis GOBSTOP shed (Garage Of Beer, Skittles, Tons Of Parts)? Darren Lewis, who by day masquerades as the mild mannered friendly manager of the local Ducati Centre d' Excellence (Frasers), has kindly offered his place for besiegement and we are all keen to know what goes on in the shed of a successful racer!

From the man himself: "That garage thing sounds great, I will put mine up for a destination and time it for when some racing is on the idiot box, I have foxtel out the back plus my garage has a race bike sitting in it with shit everywhere. Typical racers shed! Plenty of bullcrap can be heard whilst sitting or standing around a bike in a garage.
I like it.
Sometime in April suits my joint!"

So obviously the date, time, via and departure point all need to be verified and a separate advice will be sent out once it's sorted. Note you will need to be there at the start to find out where we are going as we won't be publishing the private details of where people's sheds are - ever!

But now the focus is on breakky on Sunday, and a ride a fortnight later to either Bathurst or Wollombi depending if you are in the "away for a good time" team or the "gotta mow the lawn (and get a life) on Sunday" team, or a note from your Mum who won't let you out both days! Staying at home of course isn't an option (unless you have that note from your Mum, and a life!).

We didn't get hold of these fabulous Ducatis to find reasons not to ride them huh? See ya's there!

Kind regards,
Vince Sunter

HunterDOGs Ride Sun 9am depart Belmont South Shell - Pie In Sky Loop

G'day VinceS,

Time to get your Ducati out for a bit of sunshine in its natural environment.

For our club ride this month ride coordinator Glenn Lewis has scheduled an 8:30am meet at Belmont South Shell for 9am departure for a ride around the southern countryside as follows:

Toronto
Morrisset
Wyee
Central Mangrove
Old Hwy
Pie in Sky
Berowra Waters
Wisemans Rd
home

We are told to expect showers on Sat but fine for Sunday so the odds are good we can get a sunny day for this little jaunt in the countryside. Sorry about the late reminder notice but the brilliant Tassie Turismo has been a bit of a distraction with catch up activities while things return to normal. Anyway, you're supposed to have your own reasons for joining in - and keep an eye on the calendar as that's where the info gets put first (http://hunterdog.org.au/Calendar/month.php?).

I know we are planning garage runs and the like which need some details to be sorted before adding them to the schedule - we are thinking quarterly would be a good frequency so let us know if you want to add yours to the volunteers we have already. Plus there is a weekend away scheduled for next month that needs some detailed planning and it would be handy if you are interested in coming to flick a return email. There will be a point where we make it definite depending on weather / whatever, but it would be useful to enter into a dialogue with prospective venues with an idea of preliminary numbers.

The Ducati Turismo event has quite a few mostly fascinating tales hanging off it, with due regard to the old saying "what happens on tour stays on tour!" - well worth the participation despite the wet NSW legs we got (ie first day down, last day back) - and I may tell some in time. Next year's event hasn't been decided for either locality or timing so we will just have to wait and see what is on offer. Until then, let's hear those Ducs roar!

Kind regards,
Vince Sunter

Tomorrow (Sunday)'s Hunter DOGs 9am Ride from Speers Point Pool to The Bay

G?day xxxxxxxx,

Sorry about the late reminder, with all the woofin going on in the background your club committee got confused about who was doing what! Glenn, our ride coordinator, has scheduled something new this month ? departure from Speer?s Point Pool for a short run out to the Bay. Meet at 8:30am for 9am departure. Well, we call it 9am but always seem to leave about 10-15 mins past 9!

We will go via The Back of Teralba to Wakefield Drive and get some early corners in to check if everyone is awake after New Years celebrations....? Then Lenaghan?s Drive, past the old speedway at Tomago, the natty little cut through to Bobs Farm and wind up at the Fingal Bay pub - or wherever we decide at the time.

So it will be a short one, back home well before the promised afternoon thunderstorms turn up. Rock on down and get some admiring glances cast upon your Duke!

Also, we have been wondering about changing the format of the regular rides and events. We started off thinking people wanted to go for ?a bit of a ride?, as in fairly longish one that could easily rack up 300 ? 400km in the day. We are wondering if maybe we shouldn?t schedule shorter rides and more of them. There are a bunch of reasons for thinking it could be time for a bit of a change, not the least of which is the short straw we have been drawing for weather conditions on far too many occasions!

But rather than go into a longish explanation of what options we have been thinking about we would like to hear what you think. One we had thought about is ?garage runs? which would basically start off at a relatively central place (like the above one) and go for a blat that ends in ? YOUR GARAGE! We have a couple of prospective candidates in mind, but if you would be up for it then all the better, please let us know. We are not talking freeloaders here, you could expect people to chuck some money in the tin for whatever you cared to put in the fridge!

Obviously we are still doing breakfasts at the 16 footers on the first Sunday of the month. These are quite popular and relaxing get togethers. We are thinking a more formalised short ride schedule hanging off that could be an idea. Or something else?

Please rock along tomorrow with your thoughts, or just email them to me [email protected] if you can?t make it. Replying to this Newsletter email also works, but I never trust that sort of thing to keep working so better to email direct. Thanks. Catch you round soon.

Kind regards
Vince Sunter

HunterDOGs Ride Sun 20/12/09, 8:30am for 9am Freemans Waterhole

G'day xxxxxx,

Just a reminder that, by popular demand, we have scheduled a ride on this Sunday 20th Dec. A relaxed start and a cuppa from Freemans Waterhole ? meet at 8:30am for 9am-ish departure and whoever is there will sort out the details. But I expect will be a good day for an easy and relatively quick (ie shortish!) one.  The original thinking was nobody would want to go for a ride this close to Christmas, but this was wrong! Apparently a nice ride on a Ducati in a non-double-demerit period is a great way to get settled for the upcoming festive season! Please remember we may be promised rain for Saturday, but we need to get up Sunday morning and see how it is looking as it is supposed to have gone away by then!

In other news we are likely to see the Ringwood Raceway kick off at Raymond Terrace by the end of next year. It is pretty close to a sure thing now, but we need the egg to hatch (which the ?chicken? is doing all it?s bits right so it is a realistic expectation!). See here for more info / updates: http://hunterdog.org.au/DiscussionBoard/index.php?topic=275.0.

Also note NFI have published the Eastern Ck Ducati supported ride dates for first half of 2010, see http://hunterdog.org.au/DiscussionBoard/index.php?topic=588. Plus there is the always fabulous Superbike weekend at the island late Feb, to see it in RED check out http://hunterdog.org.au/DiscussionBoard/index.php?topic=587.0.

If you are going to Turismo please drop me a line over the hols and we?ll see if there is any coordination to be done. There are a couple of fly-rides I know about, but all the tickets have been snatched up so, if you?re not going now there is no last minute option as I expect there is already a wait list!

So, see you Sunday. And for the handful(?) that won?t be able to make it to the last ride of the year Happy Christmas and let?s do it again in 20 10!

Kind regards,
Vince Sunter

HunterDOGs - Sunday Ride 6th Dec: Toy Run

A reminder for the club ride on this Sunday 6th Dec.

We are trying (for the first time) scheduling a club ride as the Newcastle Toy Run for an easy morning out and a bit of fun. There will be no Belmont 16Ft Sailing Club breakky on. So, grab a kid and come to the toy run. Or a friend. Or just yourself. But don't forget to bring a toy! Try to get a toy a kid would like to play with, not a soft toy as they get too many of these. It is a real feel good event for those that have gone before, and for those coming for the first time too. Decorate your bike (and yourself) if you wish, many will.

The plan is for me to get there around 8:30am ish and tie the club banner to a tree, pole, wall, elf / whatever to give a target to accumulate around. It does get pretty crowded so the reality may be that you will just park where you can and go with the flow, but do of course wander over to say hello. The banner is a rectangular black and white rectangle approx 2m x 0.5m and depicts a desmo valve, as well as mentioning Ducati in a couple of places of course.

http://www.toyrun.org.au/index.php?page=newcastle

If you haven't got a kid available yourself get one of the neighbours (I have), or someone from work. Whoever you pick will have an experience of a lifetime that they will remember and impress their friends with for weeks to come. It's good "cool factor" stuff for them, plus of course another kid gets to play with your toy.

Please don't let a fear of crowds / close riding put you off. Lots of people of course are not comfortable with this, so what happens in practice is many elect to hold back a little until all the "gotta be firsts" have gone in the main wave and then everyone else can just come along in relatively normal traffic. Then you can enjoy waving to the throngs of spectators without having to worry about anything you are not comfortable with.

When it comes to parking at the other end there is no real prospect of gathering together - if I can tee something up with Big John / whomsoever I will try and get the banner up at the destination, but don't count on it!

The event takes about 2 hours all up. Afterwards it will be "free rides" (as organised on the day), or just lolling about on the foreshore with an icecream / whatever.

See you soon (Sunday, OK?) Vince

HunterDOGs - Ride this Sunday (Pokolbin)

A reminder for the club ride on Sunday.

Our ride coordinator Glenn has planned the following route, plus we have the weather man scheduling sunshine (and they are never wrong when we need them not to be!):
MEET BELMONT SOUTH SHELL catho- Doyalson rutleys rd Morisset over gap Sandy Ck rd Ellalong Cessnock POKOLBIN lunch at robin Drayton?s McDonalds rd Branxton back road to Bolwarra Paterson through to Hinton Raymond Terrace home. Meet 8:30am for 9am departure.

Please also note there will be no Belmont 16Ft Sailing Club breakky on 6th Dec as the toy run is on and we will attend that instead (look for the club banner) for an easy morning out and a bit of fun. So, grab a kid and come to the toy run. Or a friend. Or just yourself. But don't forget to bring a toy! Try to get a toy a kid would like to play with, not a soft toy as they get too many of these. Club Breakfast - August 2008

Just as I wrote the word 'August' I realised that the year's flying past ( well for me at least ).

It's our breakkie get together again this weekend ( Sunday at 09:00 to be precise ) and we look forward to seeing you all at the Belmont 16 Footer's to share some good food and fine company.

There are probably some items that we need to discuss like Regalia, the web site refurbishment etc, but I'm keener to bulk up on protein and go for a quick blast ( maybe a lap of the Lake or Sugarloaf and back ? ) particularly if the weather's good.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Be good.  Ride safe.

'Club Ride - July 2008', has been made on a board you are watching.

G'day Everyone,

Just a quick reminder, that this Sunday's our July club ride, and weather permitting, we're off to Lostock Dam.

After leaving Freeman's Waterhole at around 09:00, it's generally something like via Buchanan, Hinton, Martins Ck and East Gresford, return to Gresford Pub for lunch.  But as you know by now, nothing's set in stone, and how we all feel on the day, combined with the weather and number of starters, usually plays greater role in the eventual outcome.

I'm pretty sure I won't be able to make this one as, the birthday festival has started in earnest at the Roberts' household, with Nick's, Birthday today ( and a little disappointed that he didn't get every thirteen years old's dream, the Hypermotard 1100S ), and mother's birthday on Saturday ( who I think would look great on a Tricolore Monster - if only she wasn't motorcycle agnostic ), and we're off to Sydney until Sunday.  Then the Daughter's birthday is week or so from now.  Thanks God there aren't any rego's in July, or I would be broke.

So we'll probably need a volunteer to lead on Sunday, and as I say, the destination is generally the only thing set, so you can't really muck up getting there.

Be good.  Ride safe.

See you all soon.

Regards,
The HunterDOGs Discussion Forum Team.

2008 Annual General Meeting - July 6 2008

G'day Everyone,

Yep the club breakkie this Sunday has a difference.

It's our AGM, so you not only get to decide how things are done ( which should be the case every club meeting or ride day ), but you can also help decide who does it ?  Who knows, if we're lucky, it might even be you ?

Apart from the weather, it's been a pretty good year by all accounts, with our memberships creeping up, and the opportunity of meeting a lot of new and interesting souls all sharing the same Ducati passion.

As usual we'd like to see as many of you as possible, as after we've been through the formalities, we're heading down to Brooklyn for the B.I(talian)G. ride.  Hopefully the weather's a bit kinder than last year, although there's something pointlessly satisfying about racing rain clouds home...

So don't forget 09:00 Belmont 16 Footers.

See you there.

Regards,
The HunterDOGs Discussion Forum Team.
