Saw a new Paul Smart Ducati at Frasers Newcastle today

I Have to agree, the Paul Smart is a great looking bike, frame and tank colours work well, would like one, not sure the other half would agree with another addition to the garage however

A friend of mine at work just brought one of these over the Christms break.  He loves it, as do I.  He rides it to work in fine weather and adds to our fine collection of Ducati's parked out the front.

I have informed him about the club and he is keen to join and ride along with us.  He is also currently build a large sail boat and his time is hence shared between building and sailing another boat with a friend of his. He also has a square case bevel which is presently being restored.

I promise to get him out as soon as I can so we can all drool over his PS 1000.  AND, take many photos of it so we can gloat!

Funny, he is also a good friend of some members of the GRO (I just found out the other day)  and so they will also badger him to come along on a ride.

In any case, I agree, the Paul Smart replica is a fine looking machine.  25K is about right though, my friend brought his for about that plus on road costs.

Just came back from getting a new tyre - and Paul (workshop mgr) kindly showed me a new Paul Smart DS1000 just arrived out the back. I've gotta admit I was really surprised how smic this bike is, just wish I had a camera on me - the factory pictures do not do it justice ( http://www.ducati.com/bikes/my2006/ducatiModel.jhtml?family=sportclassic&modelName=SMART1000LE-06 ).

The whole retro bike thing was started by Triumph a while back - I remember seeing a bonnie production retro for the first time, pretty good effort I thought then. Well the Paul Smart is an order of magnitude better, an extremely well constructed, well thought out, appealing, and brilliant finish. I have seen a few retros up close and personal over the years and this one leaves them all for dead, in my humble opinion. The only one that gets close is the MH900e, but it was never a full production retro ( http://hunterdog.org.au/Gallery/details.php?image_id=44 ) and the sump styling is a bit bizarre. There's nothing about the Paul Smart that looks out of place but.

Paul was saying that apparently circumstances had prevented the original owner from completing the deal, so it was actually up for sale (about $25K, he wasn't sure), but they don't expect it to last long. If you find this note and are interested good luck, sure be pleased to see it out on rides before too long!
